I was fortunate to have an amazing teacher who allowed me to be myself while learning music. That experience instilled discipline, dedication, self-esteem, and etiquette in me — and it gave me not just an appreciation and love for music, but for myself as well. That's the overall feeling I try to pass on to every student I meet.

I take the time to get to know each student's experience with music, their interests, and their preferences, so I can tailor lessons in a way that makes certain concepts and theory click more naturally for them. I always try to see things from the student's perspective, because I'm always learning too — or at least always willing to.

Learning songs, understanding music theory, and performing in front of loved ones — that's the goal, hands down. But beyond that, I feel compelled to help my students build transferable life skills like practice, patience, and care. And honestly, nothing beats watching their faces light up with joy when they're playing.

I'm Jeremy Johnson, and music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in the Metro-Atlanta area, surrounded by music from the time I was a toddler. My mother was a singer and children's choir director at our church, and she gave me my first experience of the joy and happiness music can bring through singing.

I started piano lessons at age six after my family noticed I was always playing out little tunes on my own. That was the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning to appreciate music in all its forms. As I studied multiple genres and dug into music theory, I had the opportunity to perform and compete in the National Federation of Music Clubs competitions and festivals, where I earned multiple accolades and awards.

My passion only grew from there. Throughout middle school and high school, I kept up my piano lessons while also playing trumpet in the Wind Ensemble and serving as the main pianist for the Music Makers Club at West Forsyth High School — a student group where we collaborated, formed a jam band, and performed at seasonal banquets. It was also during this time that I discovered my love for music production, inspired by producers and composers like Quincy Jones, Hans Zimmer, and Nile Rodgers. Their work opened my eyes to the many different mediums music can move through and how deeply it can affect a listener.

I went on to graduate from Georgia State University with a Bachelor's degree in Music Industry Management, where I studied every facet of the music business — from how a song is first ideated on an instrument, to its structure, to how it ultimately reaches a listener's ears. That well-rounded education means I'm equipped to help with just about any musical question a student might have.

While in college, I landed an internship at Loud House Studios, where I collaborated with other musicians and producers and also began teaching music theory to those just getting started. Those early teaching sessions brought back memories of my own lessons growing up and the impact they had on my life — and that's what set me on the path I'm on today.
