Why I love Music:

Hi, I’m Charles Haraway. I’ve spent the past 30 years working as a choral director, conductor, performer, and educator, and I recently relocated to the Atlanta area in 2023. Since then, I’ve enjoyed working as a vocal coach and choral clinician, helping singers and ensembles grow with confidence.

I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, surrounded by a rich musical culture rooted in blues, rock & roll, and country. Music was always a part of my life—I performed with my family, played in bands, and stayed active in musical theater and choir from an early age.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Mississippi and my master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. I began my career as a high school choral and musical theater teacher, spending about a decade in the classroom in Mississippi and Tennessee.

Later, I continued graduate studies at the University of South Carolina, where I served as Chorusmaster for the USC Opera, directed the Madrigal Ensemble, and taught music history and appreciation. I also spent 20 years as Director of Music at Trinity United Methodist Church, leading choirs, orchestras, and a contemporary praise band.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to lead performances at venues like the Washington National Cathedral and participate in festivals such as Piccolo Spoleto. I’ve also recorded two albums with my band, Salt Creek, as a lead singer and guitarist.

Today, I serve as Director of Music at Conyers Presbyterian Church. I believe that anyone can become a musician with the right foundation and consistent effort. My goal is always to make lessons engaging and enjoyable, so students feel motivated to grow and take pride in their progress.
